Oxnard School District Adopts “Dolores Huerta Day” Resolution

Maritza Avila (center), AMAE board member, and 7th grade student, Ruby Torres, celebrated with Board President Monica Madrigal-Lopez and Superintendent Karling Aguilera-Fort after OSD Board Members unanimously approved the adoption. Trustee and artist Denis O’Leary donated the portrait signed by Ms. Huerta. Thank you Maritza for bringing this resolution forward to the school district. Congratulations!!

AMAE has supported Haydock students and their teacher to bring about the name change for the intermediate school. AMAE is proud to have supported the students and their teacher in the research that brought to light the practices and beliefs of Mr. Haydock.

“Last year, two students addressed the school board to share their research on Richard B. Haydock. The students wanted to learn more about their school’s namesake and discovered a book called “Strategies of Segregation: Race, Residence, and the Struggle for Educational Equality” by local author David G. García.”
